Hitachi Construction Machinery used CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2011 to reveal two new Dash 5 excavators.
Called the ZX870LC-5 and ZX290LC-5, they represent the first of a new range that will arrive during 2011, replacing their Dash 3 counterparts.
With optimized hydraulics, these two new excavators have improved arm digging force, bucket digging force, lift capacity, swing speed, swing torque, hydraulic flow, engine horsepower and drawbar pull.
Other models arriving later in the year include the ZX250LC-5, ZX290LC-5, and ZX350LC-5, which will be the first to arrive at dealers.
The ZX470LC-5, ZX670LC-5, and ZX870LC-5 will launch later this summer, said the firm.
With an operating weight of 193,255lb (87 659kg), the ZX870LC-5 replaces the ZX850-3 model and brings with it a roomier cab with much more foot room and a larger door with more glass, offering better visibility to the side.
Power comes from an Isuzu engine platform that meets Tier 4 interim regulations using cooled EGR and as such, is said to be less complex to maintain than selective catalytic reduction systems.
The company said this combination delivers the productivity, fuel efficiency, and reliability that customers have come to expect from Tier 3 models.
In the ZX870LC-5, the Isuzu delivers 532hp (397kW), and a combined diesel oxidation catalyst and diesel particulate filter in the exhaust system requires a service every 5,000 hours. A hydraulically driven, reversible cooling fan is fitted as standard.
The smaller ZX290LC-5 tips the scales at 63,273lb (28,700kg) and benefits from a 188hp (140kW) Isuzu engine.
Features that have been retained from the Dash-3 series include boom, arm, and track options, along with proven hydraulic and electrical components. The short-throw, low-effort pilot controls are also retained.
