Hougen
Manufacturing has launched a new hole puncher intended for on-site use where
power is unavailable or hard to access.
The company has been showcasing the new battery-powered Hougen-Ogura model 76000 Punch-Pro
electro-hydraulic hole puncher. Applications include use high up on a man-lift
where power is not readily accessible.
Although it
is battery powered, the company said that the 76000 packs enough punch to generate
8.5US tons (7.7tonnes) of punching force and can punch round or oblong
holes up to 19/32inches (15mm) diameter in 15/64 inches (6mm)
mild steel. The unit’s throat depth is 1.02 inches (25mm) and it can punch flat
bar, angle or channel stock.
The 76000
model weighs 16.5lb (7.5kg) and the company saw it as ideally suited for applications
typically done with electric hand-held twist drills. The operator can position the tool when
working in narrow or awkward positions by rotating the motor 360 degrees in
either direction during operation. The
punch can be jogged down to the center mark to confirm hole location
accuracy. An auto-return mechanism
returns the punch to the starting position.
Its
DC magnet motor is powered by an 18V DC Lithium-ion battery that can be fully
charged in 22 minutes using the included battery charger. It can punch approximately 150 holes through
15/64 inches (6mm)
mild
steel on a single battery charge. Hougen
also offers its Punch-Pro electro-hydraulic portable hole punch models in five
other sizes.
