Honda Power Equipment has used CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2011 to
reveal six new models of portable generator that draw on a new process called
intelligent automatic voltage regulator (iAVR) to hold voltage stability within
+/- 1% at the US standard of 60hZ.
iAVR uses a digital capacitive discharge ignition, a
self-tuning regulator-governor, a current transformer applied to auto-throttle
and a digital automatic voltage regulator. In operation, iAVR lets the
generator operate well above its maximum rating for up to 10seconds, to suit
high amp draw situations.
“This power boost means tools will live longer and
reward their operators,” said Thomas Pernice, marketing and product planning
for Honda Power Equipment. “If you over or under power your tools or equipment,
then you risk creating a constant heating and cooling process, which shortens
the working life of the tool.”
The mid-range 5,000watt EM5000/EB5000 models, for
example, are able to deliver a peak output of 7000watts for up to 10seconds
with iAVR.
“This new technology allows voltage regulation to
remain much more stable, giving a consistent flow of power regardless of the
load,” he said. “This translates into protection for sensitive equipment.”
iAVR is available on EM4000/EB4000, EM5000/EB5000 and
EM6500/EB6500 models.
