Miller
Electric Manufacturing has been showing its Big Blue 350 PipePro diesel engine-driven
welder/AC generator, which has been purpose-built for transmission pipeline
welding. The machine is also designed for applications including structural
steel, construction and fabrication.
The Big
Blue 350 PipePro features the company’s Infinite Arc Control, which allows arc
characteristics to be tailored to specific applications in stick, MIG and flux
cored welding. According to Miller, overall arc quality is improved, stick
flaring issues are eliminated and MIG/flux cored controls have been enhanced
and simplified to optimize the machine for wire welding. The company said that
this is critical as many transmission pipelines are transitioning to
high-strength steels where flux cored welding provides optimal performance.
The Big
Blue 350 PipePro provides 20 to 400amps for both DC stick and DC TIG welding,
14 to 40volts for MIG and flux cored welding and 12,000W peak/10,000W
continuous auxiliary generator power for running tools on site.
A sealed aluminum
casing protects the machine’s circuit board and its Mitsubishi engine reduces
noise and lowers fuel use by as much as 50% compared to other units, said
Miller. The machine meets all Tier 4i requirements for 2013 and is designed to
operate for more than 10,000 hours before the first basic overhaul.
The Big
Blue 350 PipePro is available in an optional stainless steel package to
withstand corrosive elements in harsh environments, and all models come
standard with a LINE-X-coated top cover for added durability and reliability. The
new model is smaller than previous versions, to optimize truck space.
